Every 40 seconds someone in the United States has a heart attack. That’s about seven hundred and ninety thousand Americans each year. About fifteen percent of the people who have a heart attack will die from it. It is because of the high prevalence of heart attacks that heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death in the United States each year.

The more time that passes without treatment to restore that blood flow, the greater the damages to the heart muscle. A person’s chance of surviving a heart attack increases significantly if emergency treatment is administered as soon as possible. So, if you know the signs and symptoms of a heart attack and suspect that the patient is having a heart attack, you should begin immediate treatment, and you can do that by obtaining an ECG.
